Pascal Lopinat's prepared and amplified drumset, with which he has been experimenting and touring for a few years now, can seem very intimidating at first: a minimalist drumset, intricately wired effect pedals, loud amplifiers, loads of small microphones and a drummer in the middle of it all.

This album aims to elaborate on this setup and the process of its sound creation. The album consists of 27 musical ideas based on different combinations of instruments and rhythmic patterns. The coded track titles and the accompanying poster allow the listener to reconstruct the signal path of each track within the setup. This makes it possible to work out how the individual sounds and tracks were created.

Basically, everything is controlled by the drummer in real time: the acoustic drumset is equipped with various sensors, i.e. hand-made piezo microphones on the cymbals and guitar strings with humbucker pickups in the drums. As soon as the drummer plays, the sensors pick up the sounds and transmit them to various effects units and are then played back through the amplifiers. This allows each element of the drumset to be understood as an additional musician, creating an drum-orchestra of intriguing sounds.
